The Plight of the Female Farmer

Who among you ever thinks about the farmer or his wife?

The fate of their children, and most troubling of all, the consequences of working with pesticides?

What is most important about the plight of the female farmer - or more commonly known throughout the world as the farmer's wife - is something that is affecting many of us today.

With the rising costs of pesticides, the difficulties in obtaining subsidies, and the drop in produce purchases due to increased costs, the farmer is finding it impossible to feed their families.  Leaving it up to the husband to go to the city to find work.  The wife, therefore, is left to tend to the house, the children and the farm.

In parts of the developing world, many men in this situation commit suicide leaving the wife to not only deal with the running of the house, children and farm, but also left with the shame of her husbands actions, and much more harmful, becoming disenfranchised.

Notice any similarities?  Our lives today are difficult.  Unemployment, heath care, foreclosures and so much more then any of us have had to deal with in a very long time, or at all.

Please do not overlook your farmer or his family. Buy locally, and shop - when you can - at your local farmer's market.  Support your local farmer so he can support his family.

Farmers are dieing out at an alarming rate.  Who will produce our fruits, vegetables and grains if not our local farmer?  The big farms that are subsidized and run by our government?

Sound like a plan?

Think again - our government is in bed with Monsanto and Dupont - producers of  genetically modified seeds -  the new, up and coming, frankenfoods that will be "nourishing" all of us, unless we use our consumer power to say no to the systematic destruction of our local farmers.
